Inspiring Scotland (November 2008) On Thursday 20th November Inspiring Scotland announced details of their brand new 14:19 funding portfolio that will include Callander Youth Project. We were selected from an initial 178 applicant organisations, reduced to 44 in the 1st round announed in May, and a final 24 for funding announced yesterday (20th November). This is fantastic news for us as it will sustain our Compass programme for the next 7 years, and allow us to concentrate on developing the project over the years to come, in partnership with McLaren High School. In addition, the funding will allow us to start a brand new post-school training programme focused on develivering rural skills training for young people aged 16-19. This project will be run in partnership with Stirling Council, the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and the Forestry Commission for Scotland. More information is available from the Inspiring Scotland website www.inspiringscotland.org.uk

CYP and LTS (November 2008) We are now included on the Learning Teaching Scotland website as an example of best practice in Scotland for our partnership working with McLaren High School. This is with particular reference to our Compass programme that offers a flexible curriculum package for referred pupils who are at risk of rural exclusion, offering personal development and transition activities as part of the school timetable (see the Compass page for more information on the Compass programme). LTS have also released a corresponding article in the Autumn 2008 edition of their Connected magazine. It is available for download here as a PDF

CYP and LTS (August 2008) On Monday 25th August, we were visited at CYP by a film crew from Learning Teaching Scotland. For those of us who are unused to the dizzy heights of stardom, it was a slightly nerve-wracking experience as we were interviewed about the Compass Project and its successes to date. Snippets from the interviews will shortly be available to view (and laugh at!) on the LTS website as part of a case study of projects from around Scotland where youth work is in partnership with schools. Look out for it and tell us what you think! The webste address is www.ltscotland.org.uk

Build Your Own Youth Centre (August 2008) Callander Youth Forum have been awarded £10,000 to look at the possiblity of building a youth centre here in Callander. And you can get your hands dirty from the very beginning by helping to design, site, and even build the centre. For more information and to get involved, talk to members of the Callander Youth Forum, or Rachel and Craig from CYP. We'll soon be running workshops to discuss where we want our youth centre, what its going to look like, and what we all want to have in it ... and we have our very own architect (Howard Liddle from Gaia Architects) to help us with the process.

The BIG Question (August 2008) What is the BIG question? Quite simply, 'what do you want from your youth project?'. We want to know what you would like from CYP that we're not already providing. No idea is silly or out of the question (although trips to Disney Land may be a little hard to raise funds for!), as long as its legal and something that you'd like to do. This could be more trips, dance classes, workshops on any subject, discos, sports activities ... the list is endless. But we don't want to make it up, we want you tell us, so look out for the BIG Question mark postcards around McLaren High School and in McLaren Leisure Centre, then simply fill one in and post it back to us or hand it in at the CYP office. If we don't know what you want, then we can't make it happen!!

Callander Youth Project Celebrates Success 2007/08 (July 2008) Here is a video from our Celebration event in June. It was a fantastic evening and 5 of our young people received their Bronze Level Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Well done to everyone involved, and a special thanks to the CYP staff for their hard this past year.
